Onney (Lanora Laws) has created a strong following in her career. The talented thespian is equally praised for her work on the screen and stage as an actress, songwriter, singer and spoken word artist. She is the CEO of “Onney Publishing & Performances, Inc.”, which has become a lauded template and formula for thriving authors and entertainers looking for success. Onney perfected her craft in journalism and editing as the Entertainment Editor and columnist for the “Houston Sun Newspaper” from the years of 2008- 2011.

Onney has performed at venues across the country, opening for Ron Isley, Angela Winbush, Shawn Harris, Shang, Michael Blackston, Darrin Henson, and many more. Onney also appears in the movie ‘Rent-A-Car’, produced by Frank White, and “A Gangland's Love Story”, produced by Greg Carter; in which she received writer’s credit for writing the poems recited in the movie by Reagan Gomez, A.J. Lamas and herself. Two songs from her album, “BeYou2Feel Music” were also selected for the movie’s soundtrack. Both films were picked up by Maverick and can be found in your local Redbox.

Onney landed her first major role in the stage play Submission Adultery Disease (S.A.D.), written and directed by Ablyss Gillespie. She has also shared the stage with The Legendary Shirley Murdock while maintaining the lead female role in the gospel stage play tour "Heaven Ain’t Hard to Find," produced by 3Wise Men Productions. She was then cast for the stage play and movie “Lyfe’s Poetic Revenge written and directed by Rae-Shell D. Fletcher. Soon thereafter, Onney landed another role in a stage play when she featured in “Bougie, Broke & Single” a play written and directed by Ablyss Gillespie and held at the Hobby Center in Houston.

In 2012, Onney performed at the Def Poetry Jam Summit put on by Co-Founder Danny Simmons in front of a crowd of 5,000+ at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, Texas. In 2013, Onney received the “Woman of the Year Award” presented by the Houston Sun Newspaper and the City of Houston. The guest speakers on her behalf consisted of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Mayor Annise Parker, Congressman Al Green and many more. She was honored for her community participation in Adopt- A-Diva Camps, a program that mentors young girls from the ages of 12-18, as well as her contributions annually in Juneteenth Celebrations at the historical Emancipation Park located in 3rd Ward Houston.

Most recently, Onney and Ablyss decided to create Selfish Subjects Inc., a joint venture in which they bring their creative talents together to educate the world on social issues as well as provide entertainment. After working together on multiple projects, these ladies couldn’t deny the creative chemistry and desire they both shared for the arts. Together, they authored books entitled, “What is a Selfish Baby Daddy?” and “What is a Selfish Baby Mama?” recently published by Onney Publishing & Performances, Inc.
